A star for every good contribution. Click a student, watch it pop.
? How to play — 30 seconds
- Create a group and paste your students’ names — once per semester.
- During class, click a student whenever they contribute. A star pops, totals build week after week.
- On screen students only ever see names + the top-3 podium — full totals stay in the collapsed Tutor view.
- At semester’s end, 🎁 Redeem trades stars for whatever reward you’ve promised.
When to use this, and what to say afterwards
Best moment: Across a whole semester rather than one session. A quiet record of who contributes, not a scoreboard.
What it looks like in different courses
- CCGLA star for evidence brought unprompted.
- CCHUA star for changing your mind and saying why.
- CCSTA star for a question that improved the discussion.
Now ask them — the part that turns the game into learning
- At the end of term, ask the room: what earned a star here? What kind of contribution did we reward, and what did we overlook?
Do not use this when: Avoid displaying running totals every week. Visible leaderboards can reduce motivation for the students who are behind (Hanus & Fox, 2015). Totals stay tutor-only by default; leave it that way.
