The Challenge Cup

Starters for everyone, bonuses for the sharpest — the classic inter-team quiz tournament, with you as quizmaster.

? How to play — 30 seconds
  1. Name your teams and write starter questions — each can carry up to three linked bonus questions (with an optional theme).
  2. Read the starter aloud. Hands go up — tap the team that was first, hear their answer, and mark it ✓ or ✗. A wrong team is locked out of that starter; the rest can still take it.
  3. Take a starter and your team wins its bonus set — only they may answer, no conferring limits, you mark each one.
  4. Points are yours to set (classic is 10 per starter, 5 per bonus, −5 penalty). Highest score lifts the Cup.

Best moment: Team revision with more depth than a straight quiz, because every starter opens a linked bonus set.

What it looks like in different courses

Now ask them — the part that turns the game into learning

  1. Which bonus set exposed the biggest gap? What was missing?
  2. A team was locked out on a starter. What was the reasoning behind the wrong answer?
  3. Which question would you now put on an exam, and why that one?

Do not use this when: Avoid when you want everyone talking. Only one team answers each starter, so the quiet students stay quiet.

Rules:
- Separate the fields with the vertical bar | and nothing else.
- One item per line. No numbering, no bullets, no headings, no commentary.
- Never use a line break inside an item.
- Keep every field short enough to read from the back of a lecture room.
- Base every item on my uploaded material, not on general knowledge.
- Give exactly three bonuses per starter, all on that starter’s theme.
- Answers must be short — a name, term, date or single phrase — so they are quick to mark.
- Starters should be answerable in a few seconds; bonuses can be a little harder.
- Put the whole answer in ONE code block so I can copy it in one click.
